Improve Your Health by Getting Grounded: Research Shows Reduced Inflammation and Cortisol
Abstract
Objective: This study investigates the health effects of grounding or earthing the human body.
Context: Grounding means direct skin contact with the earth's surface electrons. Some studies suggest grounding reduces inflammation and stress. However, the research is still limited.
Methods Used: A randomized double-blind trial was conducted on healthy adults. The treatment group grounded with a conductive mattress pad for 8 weeks. Blood samples, heart rate variability, and cortisol levels were measured.
Researchers' Summary of Findings: The grounded group had significant decreases in blood viscosity, red blood cell aggregation, and cortisol. They also had increased heart rate variability indicating lower stress.
Health Implications: Grounding may improve cardiovascular health by reducing blood thickness and lowering stress. Connecting to the earth's electrons could be an easy health strategy with minimal side effects.
