Earthing the Body Can Help Chronic Wounds Heal Faster
Abstract
Objective: To examine the effects of grounding on chronic wound healing.
Context: Grounding may facilitate wound healing through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, but quality evidence is lacking.
Methods Used: Randomized controlled trial of grounded bed pads vs. sham grounding for 8 weeks in adults with non-healing foot wounds.
Data Collection: Measured wound size, skin oxygenation, and blood biomarkers of inflammation biweekly.
Researchers' Summary of Findings
Impact on Health: Grounding accelerated wound closure and increased local oxygenation compared to sham grounding. Anti-inflammatory effects were observed.
Health Implications: Grounding shows potential as a simple, adjunctive treatment for chronic wounds, warranting further research.
