Life Is A Choice
“There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”-William Shakespeare.
Well, there’s a stoic thought for you. And from Shakespeare? Cool.
Here it is said by one of my favorite accident philosophers, Marcus Aurelius: “You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
He repeated it: “Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”
Crap, and again: “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”
These are some smart dudes. It would serve you well to heed their advice.
What do you think about life? What is your first reaction when someone cuts you off in traffic? How do you respond to the world when it doesn’t go your way?
Do you react quickly and aggressively? Or do you shrug your shoulders?
Do you let emotion overtake logic? Or do you see the situation from someone else’s shoes?
Do you realize how good or bad the situation (any situation) is based on the thoughts that form in your head? Do you then think about the thoughts in your head as a choice? Or do you view them as the “fault” of the situation and, thus, not in your control?
These are all questions you should ask yourself the next time you react to something. *You might be surprised by the answers.
